Getting married in November, we wanted to have open fires and a stylish indoor venue, so when we visited The Black Swan Hotel, we immediately fell in love with its charm.
With Steven and his family being Scottish, we went for a rustic woodland theme to complement the rich colours in the Robertson tartan. I love all things vintage and have an obsession for buttons and pine cones, so these also featured in the design of the day. Most of the decorations were homemade. My bridesmaids Sam D’Alquen and Rachel Winspear (my sister) proved they really love me by staying up till the early hours sewing buttons to favours. Steven’s mum, Carol, collected the pine cones used in the decorations from our favourite place in Scotland and my mum, Jenny, is a bit of a magpie when it comes to sparkly vintage jewellery, so she helped me collect all the lovely brooches that were included in my gorgeous bouquet.
Waiting to walk down the aisle I was really nervous, but as soon as I saw Steven the nerves just vanished. The ceremony was our absolute favourite part of the day. You get so wrapped up in everything else that you forget this is what it’s all about.
After the ceremony we had canapés and mulled wine in the lounge with a big open fire and Jess Wright playing her harp. We had decided we didn’t want too many formal photographs so we asked Richard Saltmarsh, our photographer, to try to capture the day throughout.
The evening do was so much fun. Our cheese cake doubled as our cheeseboard and we hired Rat Pack singer Steve Conway and his jazz trio for the entertainment. They made our night when they played our favourite tunes from The Jungle Book.
Another highlight of the evening was popping over to the fair which had arrived in the market square on the weekend of the wedding. We had joked that it would be hilarious for the whole wedding party to go out on the dodgems, so we did.
