Former model and Ugly Betty actress, Vanessa Williams, married her partner Jim Skrip in July and has revealed the design of her luxe gold-plated wedding invitations.
According to stationery design company, Adorn Invitations, which created the invitations, the stationery was inspired by the pharaohs – their only points of reference being ‘a beautiful dress, a gold theme and a shortlisted pinboard selected by Vanessa’.
A gold and marsala colour palette featured on the design, as did a laser cut pocket, which was a ‘representation of the intricate detail on Vanessa’s dress.’
A lotus flower, plated in 14 carats of gold, was hand applied onto a gate closure for the invites, and 586 small shapes were laser cut on the gold metallic shimmer paper. The envelope was pressed with a wax stamp for the finishing touch.
Vanessa Williams and her husband Jim Skrip celebrated their wedding weekend across different venues in Buffalo, New York, where Skrip is from. The pair met in Egypt three years ago.
The actress wore two different gowns by Carmen Marc Valvo – the first being a streamlined top and skirt outfit, the second an ivory organza number with gold leather petals. Guests enjoyed gift bags by Diptyque Paris with candles, rose fragrance, Ultimat vodka and personalised M&Ms.
Williams was crowned the first African-American Miss America in 1983 at the age of 20, and as a result of her singing career, has released several hit albums. She sang the classic 1991 track Save the Best for Last and has appeared on Broadway.
