Wonderfully whimsical, this woodland-themed bridal shoot offers a colourful and natural approach to wedding styling
Sitting pretty on the cover of Yorkshire Bride magazine, we go behind the scenes on this woodland-themed bridal shoot with photographer Kathryn Widdowson.
What was the inspiration/concept behind the shoot?
The team worked closely together to create the shoot’s concept which was to achieve a woodland inspired, relaxed feel, with a hint of the bohemian bridal look. Our wonderful Yorkshire models, Emily Dennis and real couple, Katie and Andy Fisher, just had the perfect look. Just a few minutes walk from The Woodman Inn is a woodland area where I knew I would love to capture some images for this shoot. The light towards the end of the day was very pretty and cast some lovely dappled patterns through the trees. I am a very outdoorsy type of person, shooting mainly in available natural light, so I like my images to have a very natural feel, but I also like to achieve a touch of elegance in my work too. This was such an enjoyable shoot to work on and with a team of wedding industry professionals perfectly suited to my style of photography.
Tell us a little bit about the venue and why it was chosen.
Nestled in a tiny hamlet, called Thunderbridge, just outside Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, the Woodman Inn is an 18th century country inn wedding venue. This helped to create the whole theme of the shoot. As a wedding venue, this location is all about being relaxed and having the tailored wedding to suit the individual bride and groom. This venue and its team go to great lengths to ensure that every single wedding is created with attention to detail, professionalism and top notch event organisation. As a photographer that has the same ethos and approach, this is the perfect venue for me to work with. And with a newly opened set of guest bedrooms and an accompanying garden set amongst the trees, it didn’t take me long to seek out some beautiful rustic backdrops and locations for the shoot.
What kind of look did you want to achive with the make-up and hair?
With the hair and make-up for the shoot, it was all about the relaxed look again; nothing too structured or formal. Pure Bliss created a soft make-up look but with enough impact to look absolutely beautiful on camera.
What did you choose for the flower arrangements?
Wow, what a bouquet! Some of the flowers and foliage were foraged from within the grounds and gardens of The Woodman Inn and also supplied by a local flower grower, making this such an authentic, creative look by Stems Designs.
