I really wanted to get married at St Mark’s as it’s where my parents had got married and we wanted a traditional ceremony. We also knew that we wanted a venue that provided us with a blank canvas that would allow us to create our own vision and Styal Lodge provided the perfect space for that. It has gorgeous wooden beams and is incredibly light.

I didn’t have a theme in mind to begin with but I saw a photograph of a birdcage that had been covered in flowers and thought it make an interesting centrepiece. I am really lucky to have a friend who is an incredible artist and she drew some amazing sketches of birds that we used on our invitations and table name cards. Our colours were pale pink and navy which created quite a dramatic backdrop for our day.

I was incredibly nervous on the day, which is unlike me! My sister did a brilliant job of calming me down and helping me get ready for the church.

Dan was really calm and collected, until I arrived at the church, then I realised how nervous he was because he couldn’t even watch me walk down the aisle. It wasn’t until I reached him that he turned around.

We had a number of photographs at the church but the most romantic moment of the day was at Styal Lodge, when we took five minutes away from everyone and got in the golf buggy to go down to the lake to have photographs taken, just the two of us. It was a perfect opportunity to see how each other was feeling after the ceremony.

We chose our caterers carefully as we both enjoy food and wanted our guests to have a great day. Top Table were magnificent and provided an amazing menu for us.

I knew I would be quite emotional during the speeches. My dad, Dan and the best man were all pretty nervous about speaking but they did a wonderful job. There was even a prop in the best man’s speech which was extremely funny, even if it did embarrass Dan a little.
