Creating a magical and mystical aura which brings its Georgian venue to life, this bridal shoot was accomplished by a host of Cornish suppliers
If you're thinking of a Georgian-themed wedding - complete with masquerade ball, opulent styling and refined fashions - this shoot has it all. Co-ordinator, Hazel Parsons, tells us more.
What was the inspiration behind the shoot?
The inspiration for the shoot was to focus on the history of the impressive Georgian mansion and the style of this newly refurbished hotel.
Tell us a little bit about the venue and why it was chosen.
The Penventon Park Hotel in Redruth, Cornwall, has a very luxurious and theatrical feel to it. With its Georgian façade and Italian inspired interiors, it felt right for such a dramatic shoot.
What did you choose for the flower arrangements?
The flowers were very much inspired by Poldark and its feast settings. The Georgians were excellent at showing off their wealth and impressing their guests in a highly sophisticated manner. Rich exotic fruits were incorporated to illustrate their travels and ability to source the unusual from far off lands. Today it is easy for us to source the unusual and at a far more affordable price. We used lots of foliage and fruit to create the final look which not only creates a sumptuous feel but is also budget friendly (a top tip for couples planning their own weddings).
What kind of look did you want to achieve with the make-up, hair and outfits for the bride and groom?
We focused on using dark moody tones for the styling, using period inspired bridalwear and for the groom's suits, as well as the hair and make-up.
What was the thinking behind the décor for the shoot? How did you tie it all together?
The interiors of the hotel reflect its glamorous history with a dramatic modern twist. There is a mix of classical Georgian style and elements of Venetian décor throughout the hotel. With this in mind our stylist, styling guru Elle from Inspire Hire, set about planning an opulent feast for an inspirational shoot that would have made any of the previous residents of the Penventon feel at home.
We wanted to reflect the luxurious style and colours of the hotel within our shoot, choosing a palette of rich plums, deep reds, rich purples and gold. Elle headed up the design and concept, working closely with internationally renowned floral designer, Philip Corps, and a team of highly skilled Cornish suppliers.
What kind of accessories were used to create these looks and why?
We used candles and up-lighters to highlight the features of the models and the building, and even a smoke machine to give a sense of drama and mystique.
