The design of your wedding cake is an extremely personal choice, but rest assured you won’t be short of choice as the wedding cake market today is flooded with ideas for that “something a bit different”

The cake may or may not be something that is important to you on your big day; however the cake is often one of the main focuses at your reception, so it’s important to get it just right.

The décor of your cake can be anything you like from traditional, modern, wacky, ornate, hip, romantic or even funny. From experience I would say that it’s important to express yourself. Your cake should incorporate your personality both in filling and the design.

Should you follow tradition?

The wedding cake itself is along standing tradition and there have been many traditions linked to it. Some have survived and evolved, while others have diminished with time. The original wedding cakes were wheat cakes and were thought to be broken over the brides head as a symbol of fertility, From this evolved the rich fruit cake and tiered design which is believed to have come from the spire of St. Brides Church in London.

All these choices personalise your cake but you can go even further to add that personal touch:

WHITE ON WHITE - It may sound simple but it can look ever so beautiful and elegant. Different shades of white layered on top of each other in the form of ribbon, lace work and feathers can look stunning. Even broaches, crystals and the odd bit of sparkle create a magical look.

COUTURE CAKES - As Brides dresses are so beautiful incorporating embroidery and accents of colour they certainly offer inspiration for the cake and having a design or part of the design replicated onto the cake from your dress even a piece of jewellery can not only look beautiful and be very personal but will surely impress.

MINI CAKES - Why have a large cake when you can have lots of individual cakes for your guests. You can have a choice of designs and flavours and a top tier to bring it all together along with making the initial “cut.” This style of wedding cake often excites the wedding party. It is an ideal way to mingle around your guests while handing them out

PHOTO CAKES - Many bakeries and cake specialists have colour food scanners and can scan images of you and the groom onto the cake from existing photos. Maybe a story of photos from the first time you met to your wedding day.

NOVELTY CAKES - Today there are hundreds of toppers from broaches to silver or gold script initials. Do you have a passion for a hobby, pet or work commitment. Today we can design a cake around all of the above and more. The list is endless and is unique to you and your day.

It is clear from the above that bakers and cake decorators are artists when it comes to deigning your wedding cakes. Work with us, bring photos, swatches of fabric, drawings and ideas and together we will create “a stunning cake for a stunning occasion”.
