A Special Day: Darren (known as Billy) and Amy Bayliss (née David)

Darren and Amy Bayliss had their perfect wedding in a beautiful restored barn in the heart of Berkeley Vale

Wedding date: 14 May 2011

Ceremony and reception venue: The Barn Function Centre, Berkeley, Gloucestershire.

Tell us about the proposal – how did it happen? Billy proposed at home, in our garden, and he gave me the most beautiful engagement ring that he had picked himself. It wasn’t the most romantic of proposals but I didn’t need anything more than knowing that I want to spend the rest of my life with him.

The big day

The day was perfect. It started with my Nan presenting me with a gift from Billy – a beautiful bracelet. The morning went by so quickly; the cottage was busy with people coming and going, but when the bouquets arrived, that’s when it all felt real. I was late getting to the ceremony due to the car having to take other people over first, so everyone was getting panicky that I wouldn’t make it in time. I wasn’t really nervous; in fact, I was shocked at how composed I was. Bill, however, was really nervous, and when I got to the end of the aisle he said to me, welling up, “I didn’t think you were coming!”

One of the highlights of our day came when we first walked into the reception room and saw our table plan in ice and our sculpture – they looked stunning – and the cake and flowers were just as amazing. It all looked much more fantastic than I ever imagined. We hired Cattle Country Adventure Park for an hour after the reception, and it was very amusing seeing grown men and women diving down the death slide.

The honeymoon

We spent two weeks at Lily Beach Resort in the Maldives.

Best bits

Amy: My favourite bit by far was looking at my husband and saying my vows in front of all our family and friends.

Billy: Seeing my beautiful bride walk down the aisle was very emotional.
