A positively pink summer wedding in Cheshire
27 Mar 2020
Emily Lipman and Andy Dalton celebrated in style at The Oak Tree of Peover in Knutsford
How did you meet?
We met in a pub, then Andy messaged asking to take me on a date (while he was drunk).
Tell us about the proposal
I was five months pregnant when Andy proposed to me on a beach in Crete at sunset, where he wrote the question in rocks.
Did you have a theme for the day and what was your colour scheme?
Our theme was a summer wedding and we definitely wanted a party. Our colours were pink and navy.
Tell us about the venue
We chose The Oak Tree of Peover in Knutsford because we wanted a barn wedding and good outdoor space.
When did you know you'd found your dress?
I found my dress at Bride: The Wedding Show at Tatton Park. It was only the fifth dress I tried on, but I fell in love with it. It was from J&J Designs. I always thought I wanted a big princess dress but they did nothing for my figure, so I opted for a fitted design instead.
Who were your bridesmaids and what did they wear?
I had five bridesmaids: Grace, Tasha, Amy, Emma and Lizzie. They wore Lipsy dresses in a dusky pink colour.
What did the mother of the bride wear?
My mum actually broke her ankle while dancing two weeks before my wedding and was on crutches. So she opted for a navy jumpsuit to cover the cast.
Where did you find the suits?
The groomsmen suits were from Suits at Talke shopping centre and I picked them.
How did you feel as you walked down the aisle?
I felt sick with nerves... I think I just looked at the floor.
How did you make the ceremony personal to you?
We had our singer play all our favourite songs. I walked down the aisle to Shania Twain's From This Moment.
What was your most memorable moment?
For me, it was Andy putting the ring on my finger and promising to spend his life with me. That, and how good the pizza tasted!
What was the most challenging aspect of planning this wedding?
That my bridesmaids didn’t get along, which made things difficult.
What was the most important investment for you?
The venue. I wanted the location to be perfect as, to me, that set the whole day.
What song did you choose for your first dance?
James Arthur - Falling Like The Stars. We both love his music and it was a promise to always be there for each other.
What did you choose for your wedding entertainment?
For the evening, we hired Birdie, a photobooth campervan, as my family have a love of Volkswagens... and it was pink! We also had a DJ and firework display, which was amazing.
Tell us about the wedding cake
The cake was designed by Lois’s Cake Company. It was three tiers of chocolate, lemon and raspberry and decorated in flowers to match my bouquet. However, when we cut it, the knife snapped!
Is there anything you would change about the day?
I wouldn’t change a thing, the whole day was perfect and we were extremely blessed. However, I do wish I had relaxed more.
Was there anything you wish you'd known before?
How fast the day goes. I know everyone says it, is but it really is over in a flash.
Where did you go on honeymoon?
We went to Disneyland Paris with our two boys at the end of August, during the school holidays. We stayed in the Disney Cars hotel and it was so magical.
What advice would you give to couples in the planning stages?
Do what makes you happy. YOUR wedding should be what YOU want.
