Captured at Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorchester, this shoot sought to showcase wedding dresses by Aylin White Designs
Sally Broad of Aylin White Designs shares the concept and creation of this bridal photoshoot in Dorset.
Tell us a little bit about the venue and why it was chosen
I fell in love with Sculpture by the Lakes on my very first visit. It is nestled in 26 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside and the lakes mirror the sculptures and works of art, providing the perfect setting for peace and tranquility. Created by renowned sculptor Simon Gudgeon and his wife, Monique, it is a wonderful place to visit for the day and is fully licensed for civil weddings.
I really wanted to find somewhere which was a little different for my upcoming bridal shoot and felt that Sculpture by the Lakes' unique environment was an ideal location to showcase my designs.
What was the inspiration behind the shoot?
The wedding gowns and accessories to be photographed are all handpainted with various designs incorporating flowers, birds and insects, which complement SBTL’S nature inspired setting.
The location was ideal for the soft, natural, radiant look that I wanted to achieve, but I also wanted to show a more fashion forward, editorial style where art and fashion fuse with the vibrancy of colour.
What kind of look did you want to achieve?
The traditional wedding gown with pretty romantic styling, using natural tones and textures is still the dream of many a bride-to-be, but the more fashion conscious are looking for a statement piece with sharper make-up and a little attitude.
Who was in your team of suppliers?
It was important to me to have a local team of professionals to work with on the day, each bringing their area of expertise to the collaboration and to give them the chance to showcase their talents.
Ann Aveyard has won numerous awards for her photography and her images always look so detailed, that I feel I am right there with her. She captured the beauty of the gowns and accessories in extraordinary light, making them look at home among the sculptures, trees and lakes.
Katie Priestley grows her own flowers and greenery on her farm and their inviting textures worked perfectly for the free-flowing bouquet and stunning headdresses.
Samantha Portfolio (Sam) and Mary LeMaitre (Mags), the models, are both beautiful and incredible to work with, showing gentle softness for the romantic shoot and great attitude for the editorial style.
Kirsten Sare, the make-up artist, has worked on bridal shoots, in television and film, and hair stylist Sapphire Styling has been published in many wedding magazines. Both came up with some fantastic ideas to incorporate on the day.
