Inspiration
The shoot was Mary Poppins-inspired and was a collaboration between a number of esteemed and award-winning Dorset suppliers who provided their products, services, creativity and flair to present their interpretation of the theme using their creativity. This particular shoot featured two brides, a same-sex couple.
The venue
The venue was Milton Abbey, an independent boarding school set in a spectacular countyside setting, which transforms into one of Dorset’s most stunning wedding venues during the school holidays. The site features an on-site abbey church, historical Georgian mansion house and extensive grounds, surrounded by landscapes designed by the iconic Capability Brown.
Floristry and topiary
Flower arrangements were supplied by Willow and Wisps and trees were supplied by Whitestem, all designed with the Mary Poppins theme in mind.
Hair and make-up
The idea was to go with the ‘other’ theme of the 1960s Mary Poppins movie which was the women’s Suffragette movement, so we incorporated the colours of violet and green associated with this movement. However, we wanted to also bring it up to date with the modern bride and same sex wedding. The bride’s make-up and hair was vintage but with a modern twist to reflect the 2018 movie.
Décor
We wanted to show off Milton Abbey as a wedding venue, its versatility and how bespoke looks can be created for truly individual weddings. Milton Abbey only holds around eight weddings per year and the venue prides itself on its ability to offer a unique and bespoke service, together with the many suppliers we work with.
Accessories
Again, we tried to go with the violet and green colour scheme so the jewellery and hair pieces were chosen with those colours in mind. The daisy hairpiece was a nod to Mary Poppins’ hat in the original movie.
