Turning tradition on its head, Bobby Davison proposed to her boyfriend on Saturday 29th February 2020
One of many women who seized the opportunity to propose to their partner this leap year, legal secretary Bobby Davison popped the question to boyfriend Steve Haw while 450ft above Brighton beach.
Bobby chose the British Airways i360 as the setting for her proposal, a 162m observation tower on Brighton seafront, where singer Ella Croucher performed James Blunt's You're Beautiful as Bobby asked Steve to marry her.
Steve said: “It was 9am and a leap year so Bobby didn’t hang about. I am gob-smacked and really touched that Bobby went to such an effort to bring me to Brighton and propose on the i360. The whole thing just makes me love her even more.”
The couple met 13 years ago on an '80s Butlins weekend, before enjoying their first date shortly after. Bobby recalls: “On our first date I accidentally set fire to the napkin from the candle on the table, which caused absolute uproar in the restaurant - so Steve knows life with me is a little crazy. It’s only fitting that an engagement between us would not be your typical proposal."
An Irish tradition, also known as Bachelor's Day, the 29th February is considered to be the one day of the year when women have the chance to get down on bended knee and ask the all important question themselves.
