A Grand Wedding in Bedfordshire: Nicola Fowler and Peter Ward
20 Jan 2016
Nothing was too much trouble when Nicola and Peter married Luton Hoo Hotel in Bedfordshire, with the couple making the most of the palatial surroundings
How did you choose your wedding venue?
We chose this venue after looking at what we perceived to be several high class venues. After meeting with the respective organisers from our shortlist, it quickly became apparent that the team at the Luton Hoo were so much more interested in what we wanted for our day, rather than what they felt was best for them. After several meetings and what we felt were difficult 'demands' (Jonathan Faithfull, you are a saint) they were able to cater for all of our needs. From arranging top class accommodation and the most amazing photographic backgrounds, to being able to cater for our younger guests’ requirements, nothing seemed too much trouble.
How did the day begin?
The big day arrived and as we pulled up outside to the complete splendour of the Luton Hoo, we were greeted with our own reserved parking space and also one for our Rolls Royce Phantom wedding car which was held for the full four days. The doormen greeted us by name and were incredibly attentive and helped unload several cars of outfits and luggage and by the time we were checked in and shown to our bridal suite, all of our belongings were in situ.
Peter then spent some time walking the grounds with our wedding organiser Bobby and his best man. While doing so they noticed some leaves blown from the trees – within what seemed like seconds the gardeners were on hand clearing them away!
Tell us about your photographs.
Bobby showed us some other areas in Luton Hoo’s grounds which would present some amazing photo opportunities, and boy, he was not wrong. He even suggested a buggy transport us to the 'rock garden' for further photographic features. Nigel and Alex, our photography team from Venture in Milton Keynes also had a buggy on hand to ensure they got their equipment to the various locations with ease.
How did you feel on the day?
In the run up to the actual ceremony there was the 'last minute nerves' 'will everything be ok?' but Bobby and his team were on hand to calm things and ensure everyone was prepared and calm for the big moment.
Claire-Louise Lewis and Tara Burgin created the most beautiful hairstyles for all five bridesmaids, and for our matron of honour. My bridal hair was everything I had ever wished for, absolutely perfect. I felt and looked like the princess I had imagined.
Tell us about the ceremony and wedding breakfast.
The service went perfectly and the wedding breakfast was all and more that we could have imagined.
Before the wedding we attended a tasting evening so we could choose our wedding breakfast menu and wines, which was the most fabulous experience. We met the chef who was very accommodating with our requests and Paulo the sommelier who educated us on the various wine choices to perfection. They did all this without making us feel we were out of our depth with expense.
What was the evening entertainment?
The evening entertainment was provided by a local company - New Decade - and they were simply out of this world. I think they were more excited than us. Thank you Jason and Paul. Fabulous music, a mix of our choices and theirs, and our guests were thoroughly entertained to the point they didn't want it to stop.
And after the wedding?
The following morning, we had a private breakfast dining area so we could relive - what we could remember of - the previous night’s celebrations. Surprisingly the previous night’s team were all on hand to congratulate us and re-live the days events as well.
We stayed at Luton Hoo for a couple of extra nights and the experience continued. From the post wedding evening meal to the treatments in the wonderful spa, everyone was so accommodating and made us feel very special. I would definitely recommend the seven course tasting menu with wines to complement.
Throughout our stay, we could not have wished for a more personal attentive service, we truly felt we could have been royalty. Nothing was ever too much. It was personal without being too familiar. In short, we had the time of our lives and we are looking forward to spending our first anniversary at Luton Hoo, if not sooner.
