A host of Hampshire wedding suppliers created this styled shoot which centred on the venue and featured a soft colour scheme
Justine Burton of Berties Photography offers insight into this bohemian wedding shoot.
What was the inspiration behind the shoot?
The concept was inspired by the French chateaux style architecture of the Manor house it was shot at, where the French bohemian style married well with the surroundings.
Tell us a little bit about the venue and why it was chosen
This boho chic shoot was shot at Minley Manor in Hampshire, an exclusive-use venue offering the flexibility to create a totally bespoke wedding. The styled shoot showcases this setting to couples looking for a whimsical, fairytale location, appealing to couples who want a more personalised, non-traditional wedding.
Stylist Suzanne Killalea of ASK Weddings and Events, who has been working with the Minley Manor estate since 2018, said: “I wanted to utilise the venue's main allure; its many stunning architectural features and gardens."
In the images, photographer Justine Burton of Berties Photography wanted to capture as many of the different delights the venue has to offer – alongside the manor house and grounds, the Cloisters created a frame and light for portraits. The Wellingtonia Avenue, a 600m avenue of giant redwood trees was showcased as a backdrop for group shots and couple's portraits.
What was the thinking behind the décor for the shoot? How did you tie it all together?
Suzanne wanted to complement the blue grey tones in the imposing slate roofs and so replicated this in the colour palette with a scheme of blue grey, pale pinks and beiges, all taken from elements of the building.
From there she created a mood board that outlined the atmosphere, the textures, and patterns, that she wanted to achieve in the ceremony setting, florals and tablescape. Pampas grass featured heavily to lighten and lift the red brick exterior walls and exude the bohemian vibe.
What did you choose for the flower arrangements?
For our outdoor French boho wedding theme, Nicola Anrdews of Jasmine Flowers chose a selection of flowers, grasses, and seed heads with pops of colour echoing a coral sunset. Peonies and soft blue delphinium were teamed with thistles and bleached ruscus. For the bouquet, Nicola added protea to create a soft, slightly faded bohemiun style. She also created a floral crown as a pretty accessory to finish off the look.
What kind of look did you want to achieve with the make-up, hair and outfits for the bride and groom?
Boho beautiful with romance for the bride, and a touch of sophistication and swag for the groom.
Victoria Harper of Farnham Bridal Boutique chose the beautiful 'June' wedding dress because of the relaxed bohemian feel. The low back along with scalloped lace edge and the bell sleeves gave the bride a glamorous and vintage look.
For the groom, a three-piece House tweed suit from Blacktie Menswear was chosen. It complemented both the grandeur of the surroundings and the colour scheme of the shoot, while maintaining a relaxed feel. Two looks in one allowed the groom to begin the day in a more formal suit jacket for the ceremony, removing it as the day unfolded to reveal a more laid back style with matching waistcoat.
Hair and make-up artist Amy Lacey kept the styling for the bridal hair soft and textured with plaits, as well as waves for a messy romantic look. Make-up was fresh and pretty with neutral hues and rosebud pink lips which complement the dresses. The groom's hair was styled casually with pomade wax and his skin was primed and moisturised, with a flick of brow gel to set his eyebrows in place.
