A festive wedding shoot in Suffolk

14 Dec 2021

Celebrating the joys of Christmas and a wedding themed on the time of year, this styled shoot is festive through and through

Photographer Romy McGuigan of English Rose Photography tells us more about this Christmas-themed wedding shoot in Sudbury, Suffolk.

What was the inspiration behind the shoot?

With last Christmas bringing mixed emotions for all due to the pandemic, we wanted to get into the festive spirit and organise a shoot with a traditional Christmas theme. The classic colours of red, gold and green were our starting point and from there we let our imaginations run wild to produce some great festive photos.

Tell us a little bit about the venue and why it was chosen

The venue, Alpheton Hall Barns, has a beautiful medieval barn with a history of more than 1,000 years. This very unique and one-of-a-kind venue was chosen to host the shoot by bridal hair artist Yuki Black.

She went to visit the site in early October and met Carol Willcocks, the owner, where the winter wedding theme was discussed and agreed upon. Carol wanted to showcase the beautiful handmade ladder lights, the amazing 'blank canvas' barn and the vast meadow they have outside.

What did you choose for the flower arrangements?

Stef’s Silk Flowers kindly provided us with a beautiful bouquet of deep red roses and traditional foliage. Romy then created the table centrepiece from off-cuts of a spruce tree and pine cones. We chose these arrangements as we felt it encompassed the traditional Christmas theme and the colours were beautiful.

What kind of look did you want to achieve with the make-up, hair and outfits for the bride?

The simple sleek up-do was created by Yuki Black. When creating bridal looks, Yuki always tries to use the theme of the wedding, the dress and hair accessories to influence her hair design. Lauran, the model, has stunning long blonde hair and the dress has a beautiful deep V-neckline, which inspired Yuki to create this classic and elegant low bun hairstyle.

Make-up was by Maxine Pfander, who paired a dark and rich eye colour with a classic red lip, which really tied in the dress and Christmas theme of the shoot.

What was the thinking behind the décor for the shoot? How did you tie it all together?

With the colour scheme and theme chosen, it was down to the suppliers to use their skills and imagination to bring everything together. The place settings used gold accents and deep red napkins to tie in with the theme and were then dressed with ribbon and pine cones.
