The Italian coastal town of Sorrento was the inspiration behind this otherwise quintessentially British wedding shoot
Find out more about this Italian-inspired shoot in Cambridgeshire, further explained by wedding photographer Sian Richardson.
What was the inspiration behind the shoot?
British weddings with an Italian twist. Lemons were the main feature of the shoot with symmetry as an element integrated in the styling.
Tell us a little bit about the venue and why it was chosen
Hardwicks Moat Weddings is a stunning sailcloth marquee venue located in Cambridgeshire. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is a secluded area for a wedding party. It was chosen as it has a very British vibe about it and worked well with the idea of bringing together an Italian theme with a British wedding.
What did you choose for the flower arrangements?
Flowers were based on the colour scheme of yellow, white and blue. We held the shoot in May 2021 and chose flowers that were in season at the time, all sourced from UK suppliers. Suzanne Humbert Floral Design always works with seasonality and sustainability in mind.
What kind of look did you want to achieve with the make-up, hair and outfits for the bride and groom?
The suit, bridesmaids' dresses and accessories were all intertwined with the colour palette and theme. The groom's outfit was completed with a Liberty lemon-printed dicky bow that was also used for the bridesmaids' headbands to bring it all together.
The bride's dress was a two-piece supplied by Ivy and Gold from UK designer Story of My Dress. It has polka dots throughout the lace and stunning embroided flowers. The longer sleeves are suitable for the British weather, whereas the open back paid homage to a more Italian style dress. The bow veil completed the look.
Hair and make-up were based around a more relaxed British summer vibe.
What was the thinking behind the décor for the shoot? How did you tie it all together?
For the styling, we used the lemons to create a fresh and modern look inspired by Sorrento. These were used in the stationery, table accessories and the floral displays and balloon and flower arch. The symmetry element of the brief was harnessed to create mirror image displays, from the candlesticks and place settings to the backdrop sails, colours and the cake table display.
