A black and white wedding in Botswana

03 Apr 2019

Following an eight-month engagement, Temogo Temmy-ly and Benjamin Moya tied the knot in their native Botswana and celebrated with 200 guests

How did you meet?

We once worked together in the same office. The proposal did not come as a surprise as he had always talked about his intentions of marrying me.

What was the colour scheme for the day?

Black and white. In my country, Botswana, black is often associated with grief and sadness. Yet I wanted to be different by using it as my main wedding colour and I delivered.

What venue did you choose and why did you choose it?

Cresta Thapama Hotel for the wedding ceremony, I liked the intimate set-up of the garden. Tati River Lodge hosted the ceremony as it was big enough to host our 200 wedding guests.

When did you know when you’d found ‘the’ dress? Which designer? How many dresses did you try on?

I scrolled through Pinterest and went to Eccentric Style Loft with the dress in mind, but they totally changed it to something amazing.

What did the bridesmaids wear?

They wore Pinterest-inspired black dresses.

Where did you find your suits?

Tell us about your floral arrangements.

I really tried as much as possible to limit the flowers, however I used a lot of centrepieces.

How did you feel as you walked down the aisle?

It was all mixed emotions, I was excited and scared at the same time.

How did you make the ceremony personal to you?

The ceremony was around the pool as I wanted to break away from the norm of a church or building setting for the ceremony.

What was your most memorable moment?

Walking down the aisle with The Brooklyn Tabernacle’s Wonderful to Me playing in the background.

What was the most challenging aspect of planning this wedding?

Contacting people who did not RSVP.

What was the most important investment for you?

The photography.

What song did you choose for your first dance?

A Good Night by John Legend

Did anything go wrong on the day?

No, it was all perfect.

Was there anything you wish you’d known before?

No, I did things my way and they came together just the way I wanted them to.

Are you going on honeymoon?

We are planning to go to Cape Town on our first wedding anniversary.

Do you have any advice for couples in the planning stages?

Assign people to plan your wedding. I did and never had any problems or stress.
