Somerset wedding suppliers showcased their talents in this ballerina bridal shoot which offers a nonchalant feel and a graceful edge
Held at the Old Down Estate in Bristol, Daniel Ahchiev of Swan Photography led a team of local suppliers to capture his vision of a ballerina bride.
What was the inspiration behind the shoot?
I undertook a personal photography project in the past called 'Urban Butterflies' and, having moved into wedding photography recently, I decided to merge both themes in one inspirational shoot. I decided that it would be a good idea to see the finesse and the movement of a ballet dancer dressed up as a bride and it worked well. I also wanted to show that firstly, every bride could be different by embracing her personality, and secondly, the bride could look just as perfect without spending a fortune on expensive make-up, dress, accessories etc.
Tell us a little bit about the venue and why it was chosen.
I was looking for a venue with some history and style. Having a nice garden/park was very important too, because I wanted to do as many outdoor photos as possible with some natural colours in the background. That's why we chose Old Down Estate.
What props and accessories did you choose and why?
We used just a small bouquet of fresh spring flowers to complement the bride's outfit – a perfect match for the theme. We also used an old vintage bike which added to the outdoor vibe.
How did you choose the dresses?
I spent a lot of time trying to find a nice, light, airy bridal dress. The most important thing was to give the ballet dancer the opportunity to move and to show her legs, so the dresses had to be light and not very long. I also wanted it in a natural colour, to be able to fit the background. The peachy gown we chose for the main shots was the perfect fit.
What kind of look did you want to achieve with the make-up and hair for the bride?
I wanted it as simple and natural as possible. Light, natural make-up and a flower or simple accessory in the hair... like the final touch of a painter.
