40% of wedding guests believe the cost is more than worth it

With guests set to spend an average of £800 this wedding season, two fifths have claimed that the cost is more than worthwhile
Recent research by M&S Bank has revealed that almost half of Brits (49.5%) will attend up to three weddings a year, costing them an average of £800.
However, 40% believe the value of seeing loved ones walk down the aisle far outweighs the cost, with two thirds claiming it an honour to be asked to attend a wedding.
While guests are set to spend £266 on average, the best man will spend as much as £313, and for grandparents this comes in at £430. A new outfit was one of the highest costs with mothers of the bride and groom spending an average of £307 on a new ensemble.
Paul Stokes, head of products at M&S Bank, said: “We know the privilege of attending a wedding far outweighs the cost for many of us, but with wedding season totalling nearly £800 on average, we wanted to look at the costs and see where guests could make some savings.”
In response to the findings, M&S Bank has announced that new Current Account holders will receive a £125 gift voucher to help them purchase their outfit for the special day. For more information, visit http://bank.marksandspencer.com/.
