The cost of celebrity engagement rings REVEALED

12 Oct 2018

New research has revealed this year’s average cost of celebrity engagement rings… can you guess the value?

While couples across the globe turn to celebrity engagement rings when looking for inspiration for their own proposal, the cost is rarely considered.

However, a recent study has revealed that the average cost of a celebrity engagement ring between 2017 and 2018 was £34,570. This amount has in fact decreased since 2016, when the average engagement ring value was £63,722.

Looking at 170 celebrity engagements over the past five years including that of Ariana Grande and Princess Eugenie, the research was conducted by online jewellers 77 Diamonds. Each engagement ring’s carat, colour, clarity, cut, metal, and style were all factored, as well as the net worths of the proposer and proposee, their professions and whether this was their first engagement or not.

The study also aimed to unveil the current trends in celebrity engagement rings, as Tobias Kormind, director at 77 Diamonds, reveals: “Many of the trends this year follow those of 2017. Platinum is the most popular metal for the ring again. It’s the most reliable and durable while providing a stunning finish to each ring. This metal has been popular for the last few years, and we expect it to continue this way."

“The cushion cut is back in fashion after a surge in its popularity,” continues Tobias. “The cushion is seen as the ‘it’ diamond, which explains the demand among celebrities for the stone. Its soft corners, greater light refraction and ‘crushed ice’ effect makes it a beautiful alternative to the round or princess cut. Also, providing a better value per carat increases its popularity.”
