There was a glamorous retro feel to Simon and Mary’s relaxed, country fete-styled wedding at The Tythe Barn

We wanted an outdoor wedding and the idea of being able to get married in the beautiful gardens of The Tythe Barn seemed lovely. Their gardens reminded me of watching The Secret Garden as a little girl. I wanted a village summer fete, relaxed feel with bunting and loved all the exposed beams and bricks within the interior of The Barn. It was a perfect venue really. The Tythe Barn and our wedding planner were great and very down to earth. They put me at ease and understood the whole feel of the day and what we wanted to achieve.
I bought the base of my dress from Honeypie Boutique and then my amazing dressmaker created a polka dot overlay, sleeves, collar and cute little bow belt for me. She also made the bridesmaids’ dresses.
My friend Caroline Eason did my flowers and we found a brilliant idea online for a gypsophila garland with paper birds hanging from it on ribbons. My old wooden birdcage was my table planner. It was transformed with birds, flowers, foliage and moss to look like a magical forest scene. It all looked absolutely brilliant.
The Tythe Barn looked magical, exactly how I had envisaged it. It felt so relaxed and personal. It was like a true vintage tea party, 1950s style. At night I had paper lanterns, fairy lights and jam jar lights everywhere so it was all lit up. I made photo props and had little frogs with tags round their neck reading ‘kiss me’ and ‘wish’ on the tables. I had teacup candles on the tables, and I made my bride and groom birdy cake toppers by buying a pattern online. My name tags were tied to vintage teacups which I had been collecting for over a year. Inside the cups were our favours, chocolate mini eggs inside handmade bags. I clipped old black and white photographs of relatives who are no longer with us to an old frame, so they could be part of our day. The in-house caterers at The Tythe Barn are Jamie Oliver’s team, ‘Fabulous Feasts’ and much of the farm produce is incorporated into their menus. It was rustic and picnic style. They always pull it out of the bag.
As soon as we saw our photographer’s work online we knew he was exactly who we wanted to capture our day. He made everyone feel at ease and our day fun.
For our entertainment we wanted music that everyone would want to get up and dance to. We booked Accrington Stanley who are predominantly a Beatles band but they also played other old songs. They went down a storm and everyone was up and dancing.
