The last thing a bride wants on her big day is rain, however you can’t always rely on the British weather and unfortunately the weather is the one thing you can’t plan.
In Hindu tradition, rain on your wedding day is actually considered good luck. Not only is it supposed to signify fertility, but it also represents a long-lasting marriage.
With grey clouds and puddle reflections, rainy days and stormy skies also make for beautiful wedding photography.
Kelly and Sam Hazle tied the knot at Riverdale Barn in Hampshire, despite the light downpour at the end of their big day, the couple were keen to use the opportunity to take memorable photographs.
“When we approached our photographers to tell them that we would be happy to go outside in the rain for photographs is a moment that will stay with me”, says Kelly. “They happily obliged and we had such a laugh while in the gardens. I look back at the amazing black and white photo in the rain with such a lovely feeling as we were both so happy, even if we were a bit soggy.”
Lauren-Lee Broomhead, who married Aaron Day at De Vere Cranage Estate in Cheshire, said: “I was so disappointed as it was forecast for rain on our special day. I thought it was going to spoil the whole day. There were a few showers throughout the day but it honestly didn’t matter and we didn’t really notice.”

However, if you are worried about the weather find a venue which offers space for both the ceremony and reception under one roof, offer personalised umbrellas as wedding favours and discuss a wet weather plan with your photographer.
