14 ideas for your 'something blue'

10 Jun 2016

If you’re following the age old tradition and struggling to find your ‘something blue’, here are a few ideas to inspire you

‘Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ as the saying goes, but how superstitious are you?

Don’t leave your blue lucky charm to the last minute; you can incorporate this aspect in to several elements of your special day.

1. Bridesmaid dress

If your colour scheme allows, why not ask your leading ladies to sport the shade, just like this Gina Bacconi embroidered dress in baby blue.

2. Cake

The most subtle of hues can really create a ‘wow’ factor on your wedding day. Pale duck egg blue, as seen here on this four-tier cake by The Sugar Velvet Cake Company in West Yorkshire, is a popular shade that offers a touch of shabby chic.

3. Stationery

From the invites to the place settings, this cornflower blue stationery by Wagtail Designs features classical fonts and dandelion illustrations which complement the colour.

4. Ring

Let your jewellery centrepiece do all the talking, with a sapphire ring a la Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cambridge. This oval sapphire from the London Victorian Ring Company is surrounded by a halo of 10 round diamonds in platinum to add extra sparkle.

5. Headpiece

If you’re opting for headwear, why not incorporate the vital wedding colour? The Vintage Blue and Gold Feather Headpiece by La Belle Epoque (as featured on Not On the High Street) and this turquoise fascinator by Katherine Elizabeth Millinery both offer the finishing touch.

6. Flower girl

There are lots of blue dresses out there for your flower girl, such as this fairytale Charlotte dress by Demigella and floral cotton frock by Gilly Gray.

7. Favours

Inject an infusion of blue in to your table settings, with blue-themed favours. These baby blue Lego boxes from The Last Detail are fun and can be filled with whatever your heart desires.

8. Nails

From your head to your toes, the opportunities for a blue flash are endless. If you don’t want to alter your colour scheme in any way, blue nails are a fail safe option; try ‘Hope’ from the Nailberry La Piscine collection.

9. Lingerie

Who says your ‘something blue’ has to be on show? Keep it hidden with luxury lingerie, like this teal slip from Gilda & Pearl.

10. Garter

A firm favourite; the blue garter will never go out of fashion. Don’t settle for a cheap version inspired by Chelsea FC, take a look at these beautiful garments from Agata Maria Couture and Lou Lou Puchalka.

11. Flowers

Make a statement with a blue bouquet. Interflora presents plenty of colour combinations which feature an abundant array of flora – from sky blue hydrangeas to pastel muscari and even dark blue thistles.

12. Confetti

Following on from flowers, extend the colour to your confetti - which can be placed in buckets for people to shower you with on your exit as husband and wife. Shropshire Petals offer a delicate blend of ivory delphinium petals and blue cornflower petals, aptly named ‘Something Blue’.

13. Shoes

In splendid contrast to a white or ivory gown, blue shoes are a stunning complement. This Tiffany blue pair by Aruna Seth boast glitz, glamour and height - for those that need it.

14. Suit

Make your man your blue addition, with a suitably coloured suit, like this Blue Slim Fit Suit by Occasions – available from Suit Direct.
