For many couples planning a winter wedding many like to incorporate the festive season into their big day details.
Whether your are looking to add a subtle nod to the season or to make a celebration statement, your wedding cake is a great opportunity to have fun with design, colour and flavour.
Fulop Gabor, owner and manager of London-based Jack & Beyond says: "Christmas is the perfect time for spiced and boozy bakes which can be a great inspiration for wedding cakes; a classic sponge cake flavoured with gingerbread spice is a good choice but spices can also be added to other cake flavours to give them a christmassy character - such as our carrot and cinnamon cake for example. In terms of boozy cake flavours there is of course the traditional iced fruit cake, which has always been a popular choice for wedding cakes and fits well into the festive season.
"For an elegant take on the season, choose a classic white finish with textured or smooth royal icing / fondant and then play with colours and decorations to give your wedding cake a christmas yet elegant character.
"Hand painted accents in festive colours, such as rich wine red and dark greens, combined with a lustre effect in gold or bronze can be a great way to add a festive theme or, for a wintery frosty effect, opt for icy blues and silver."
For wedding cake toppers, why not add more elements of the season with rustic wooden, shiny apples, red and purple berries, sticks of cinnamon or a gingerbread biscuit bride and groom.
If you are planning a winter wedding after christmas, Fulop Gabor of Jack and Beyond has the top predicted trends for winter wedding cakes: "Gemstone wedding cakes are currently one of the biggest cake trends on social media and are a great choice for winter wedding cakes, especially if you are looking for a frosty, icy look for your cake. Carefully handcrafted with sugar crystal gemstones emerging, these cakes certainly look spectacular and can easily be customised in terms of colours to match the general theme and table decorations."
