1. If you like the tanned look, get a spray tan or at least use a self-tanner you know works 24-48 hours after application. Don't leave it till the week of your wedding to decide to try fake tan.

2. Avoid coffee, tea, and red wine to prevent staining your pearly whites. Discuss tooth-whitening options with your dentist if you'd prefer more noticeable results.

3. Get a touch-up two weeks before the big day and use colour preserving shampoos and conditioners to maintain results, and keep the shine. Don't attempt home dyes before the big day as they can leave your hair in poor condition.

4. Use a good primer and definitely set your make-up with a loose powder before you walk down the aisle, but don't keep over powdering skin as the day and night wear on. Instead, carry blotting papers. This way you don't have to keep powdering your face all night long.

5. Hair stylists always talk about how dirty hair makes the best up dos. Try this advice, because it does really work and the hair is easy to work with and stays put.

6. Today is definitely the day to whip out that waterproof mascara. Ask your bridesmaid to carry a tissue or cotton bud for you to dab the tears (Do not wipe unless you want to resemble a panda!).

7. Make sure your skin looks great. Start a good cleanse, tone and moisturise regime at least six months before the big day. And look at your diet and water intake.

8. If you're booking a pro for your hair ask if you can have your make-up done, too. Make sure to consult with the artist and do a trial run before your big day.

9. If your hair and make-up artist suggests looks that you hadn’t considered before, don’t feel pressured to follow their advice, but while you have their expertise at your fingertips, you may as well give it your consideration. Be sure to find that look that you love before the big day.

10. Get a great cut two to three weeks before the wedding day. Even if it’s long, get your ends snipped off. To keep it in condition for the day and the honeymoon try a deep conditioning treatment once a week/fortnight in the run-up to the wedding.
