Make sure your hair is at the top of its game on your wedding day with this useful timeline, designed to allow you to prep and preen to perfection.

1. Six months before – If you would like longer hair or different coloured hair for your big day then you’ll need to start thinking about this now. Go and see your stylist and discuss what is going to be achievable.

2. Five months before – Get serious about hair care. If you hair is dry, then start applying weekly moisturising masks. If you colour your hair regularly then talk to your stylist about this routine, or switch to a kinder colour product to ensure that damage is kept to an absolute minimum in the lead up to your big day.

3. Four months before – If you think that you may want to go with a hairdresser who isn’t your usual stylist, then start looking around now and book in consultations. A lot of bridal hair specialists book up months in advance, so if your wedding is June/July, you may want to decide on your chosen stylist as early as February, just to be safe. If your wedding is out of peak season, you may be able to allow a little more time.

4. Three months before – It is time to decide on your wedding hair stylist and get this booked in. Be sure to book at least one hair trial in too – usually a couple of weeks before your wedding.

5. Two months before – If you think that you may want to wear hair extensions for your wedding and honeymoon, then be sure to arrange a consultation with a certified stylist several weeks before the wedding day. Application should also be done around this time. This way you have time to get used to them, and you can trial your chosen hair looks with the hair extensions in (which will give you an accurate sense of what your hair will look like). Don’t leave this to a week before!

6. Six weeks before – You’ve probably got a good idea already, but now you have your dress and have chosen a headpiece, you should decide on how you may want your hair styling. Check in with your stylist and ideally arrange a trial, so you can test a couple of your favourite looks – it's far easier than guessing what each style will look like only from photos and you can try them with your dress too, to check the whole look works together.

7. Two weeks before – Book in for a trim and colour refresh with your stylist. If your hair is prone to fading, you may wish to wait another few days, or invest in good colour care products to help prevent fade/brassiness.

8. Two weeks before – Arrange a final hair trial with your chosen bridal hairstylist. Be sure to take your veil or hairpiece with you so this can be integrated. If you aren’t happy, now is the time to speak up – you’ve got enough time to consider and trial another option. Don’t panic!

9. One week before – Don’t forget your man. If he is looking a little disheveled then remind him to go and get his hair trimmed.

10. The day before – Deep condition your hair to ensure it is super glossy and gorgeous. Some stylists may prefer that you don’t wash your hair on the day of the wedding (some hair up looks are easier to achieve if hair isn’t freshly washed); check in with your hairdresser to be sure.
