Combine your hen and stag party for the ultimate celebration which you can enjoy together; here are 10 'sten' party ideas
What is a 'sten' party?
Otherwise known as a hag (hen and stag) party, a sten party (stag and hen) allows couples to enjoy the send-off into married life as a couple, merging the stag and hen parties for an unforgettable celebration. Growing in popularity, a sten party can involve the stag and hen partaking in separate activities during the day then coming together at night, or enjoying every aspect together. The key is finding the balance in the group activities you choose, ensuring that both hens and stags will be happy to take part. Here are 10 ideas for a successful 'sten'...
1. Zip wire
Experience the exhiliration of Zip World Velocity at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry, Bethseda (North Wales) - the fastest zip line in the world and the longest in Europe. Reaching speeds in excess of 100mph, the zip line offers stunning views out towards Anglesey and across the Isle of Man on a clear day. Ideal for adrenaline junkies.
Go-karting is great for all abilities, allowing both men and women to get involved. Zip around the track at nail-biting speed and crown the winner who completes the course in the best time.

3. Beer bike
The ideal activity if you're planning a get-together abroad, a beer bike offers parties the chance to tour a new city while enjoying a beer or two. London's Pedibus offers alcohol-fuelled tours of the capital city, and continental travellers can also hire a beer bike in Amsterdam and Berlin.
4. Escape Rooms
A terrific team-builder, Escape Rooms are a fantastic way to boost morale. Split the sten party into smaller groups - a mix of male and female participants, if you wish - and try your hand at deciphering the hidden clues to unlock the Escape Room. There are themed Escape Rooms all across the UK, including locations in Cardiff, London, and Wiltshire.
5. Bubble football
If the bride is just as sports-mad as the groom, then why not arrange a battle of the sexes in a game of group football with a twist? Bubble football is a great way to go head to head without sustaining a nasty injury. Alternatively, if you fear the competitive spirit might get too much, you can arrange for hens and stags to play separately.
6. Sten festival
GoHen.com and StagWeb.co.uk have teamed up to give nearly-weds the chance to host their own mini-music festival. A huge pre-wedding party, Sten-fest is a complete mini-music festival with everything you would expect to find at larger events and is available at sites across the UK. Sten-fest includes: live band/s, hog roast, mobile cocktail van, glamping, and team games and activities.
7. Inflatable game tournament
Spring or summer sten parties will delight in a tournament filled with inflatable games. Inspired by the TV show, take a look at It's a Knockout which can be found in eight locations across the UK - from Bournemouth to Edinburgh, and includes games such as 'Bangers and Crash', 'Dizzy Donuts', 'Slippery Summit' and 'Perilous Pendulum'.
8. Boat party
Whether at home or abroad, a boat party creates a celebratory atmosphere like no other. Most UK cities with a river running through or a marina should offer such a service. You can charter a boat on the River Thames or enjoy a trip aboard Cardiff Cruises. If you're venturing further afield and basking in sunnier climes, research boat providers abroad who can fulfil your party with flair.
9. River dinner
For a more civilised activity aboard a boat, take a look at Bateaux Windsor - a fine dining moving restaurant on the Thames. A beautifully crafted vessel that can be chartered for a minimum of 30 guests, Bateaux Windsor's special dining experiences take in the picturesque stretches that pass Windsor Castle and Windsor Racecourse. Cruises last 75 minutes to 2.5 hours and diners can enjoy a choice of afternoon teas, Sunday lunches and suppers, or delectable lunches - prepared by an award-winning team of chefs on board.
10. Murder mystery
If you're hiring a house for the weekend, a murder mystery is the perfect opportunity to gather as one group and get in character for an extra memorable activity. You can buy a murder mystery pack beforehand, assign characters and familiarise yourself with the format so that the evening goes without a hitch. The packs also allow for interludes where you can enjoy dinner or drinking games... depending on your preferences. Similarly, you can opt for a venue/provider to host your murder mystery evening for you.
