If you hadn't considered Egypt for your honeymoon, you will once you have learnt more about its 10 top honeymoon hotspots

Offering something for everyone, there’s nowhere in the world quite like Egypt as a getaway destination for newlyweds. The Egyptian State Tourism Authority has rounded up the top 10 honeymoon hotspots for you to consider for your trip of a lifetime.

1. Hurghada

Known for its picture-perfect beaches and colourful coral reefs, Hurghada is lined with beautiful resorts which are ideal for honeymooners wanting to unwind and rejuvenate. The bustling Marina Boulevard is perfect for romantic strolls and just off the shore lie the protected Giftun Islands also known as the ‘paradise islands’.

2. Cairo/Giza

Egypt’s buzzing capital is a hive of activity and a guaranteed bucket-list tick. With sumptuous international hotel brands like St Regis and Four Seasons, you can sleep in comfort before filling your days with visits to the world-famous bazaars, the pyramids and the Great Sphinx in Giza.

3. Soma Bay

45km south of Hurghada, Soma Bay is an exclusive coastal peninsula, considered one of Egypt's most tranquil locations. Home to luxury resorts such as Sheraton and Cascades, honeymooners will have no shortage of activities to occupy their time here with championship golf courses and one of the largest spas and thalassotherapy centres in the region.

4. Marsa Alam

If you’re looking for utopia under the sea, this is the place to go. In fact, Marsa Alam is a top destination for diving with sharks. However, the picturesque beaches and balmy year-round temperatures will ensure couples have a fantastic time even if they opt for less adrenaline fuelled pursuits. Al-Naizak, the famous natural pool, is a well-loved beauty spot and the El Qulan Mangrove Forest is well worth a visit too.

5. Luxor

Often called ‘the world's greatest open-air museum’, what better way to enter married life than taking in the magnificent sunset views at the majestic temple complexes of Karnak, or strolling around the tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings?

6. El Gouna

El Gouna is the epitome of tranquillity and peace, boasting plentiful lagoons bordered by lush gardens and home to luxurious hotels and fantastic restaurants. A private boat trip out into the bay is the perfect romantic date for newlyweds.

7. Alexandria

Offering a fascinating mix of history and modernity, the ‘White Med’ port city of Alexandria is the second largest in the country. Laze the days away on its glorious white sand beach or pay a visit to its Great Library and discover a world of secrets.

Although there are currently no direct flights here from the UK, travel to the popular hotspot Sharm El-Sheikh is straightforward from the capital Cairo. Golden palm-fringed beaches and vibrant nightlife await…
