Your dream day is getting closer. Months of planning will soon be put to the test. It’s incredibly exciting, but also a little bit scary. You’ve gone over the arrangements a hundred times to make sure everything’s perfect: the details of the ceremony, the wedding meal, the evening entertainment, and the dress is simply stunning. But there are a few aspects of a wedding that often get overlooked. There are almost always slower parts of the day for the guests, while you’re getting your photos taken for example. However, these lulls are actually a wonderful opportunity to make your wedding even more special so here are a few ideas to do exactly that.

1. String quartet

Classical strings are a wonderfully elegant addition to a wedding. A string quartet can provide a beautiful backing track to the ceremony and afterwards entertain the guests while they sip cold drinks in the sun - chilled guests and chilled drinks; perfect.

The Sky String Quartet can apply their considerable talents to anything from Mozart to lively jazz, pop and rock with a classical twist, and even the theme from Star Wars, to strike a chord with everyone.

2. Acoustic duo

Get serenaded on the terrace with a glass of champers in hand; even arrange for granddad, your favourite aunt, and your little niece to have their own personal rendition of a special song to make their day as memorable as yours. Versatility is the key and The Jetters have that in spades, plus a bucketful of talent. This acclaimed acoustic duo bring their own exceptional style to popular hits spanning the decades, from Elvis to Ed Sheeran and everything in between, keeping all of your guests entertained.

3. Choir

A choir can touch your soul or send your spirits soaring. It can provide a moving backing for your walk down the aisle, and then an uplifting, hands-clapping, gospel number at the drinks reception to get the celebration off to a joyful start.

The incredible harmonies of a great choir like Gospel Works will bring the feel-good factor to any wedding. Emotive and energy-packed performances of favourites like Amazing Grace and Oh Happy Day, and modern hits in their own inimitable style will captivate your family and friends. Oh Happy Day indeed.

4. Pianist

The delicate strains of a finely tuned piano float through the air as your nearest and dearest gather to celebrate the happiest day of your life. The atmosphere created by Oak Piano will be just perfect for your guests to relax and the laughter to flow. The pianist's captivating performances will put your guests in the perfect mood to enjoy your day.

5. Roaming band

Where do want your wedding entertainment? In the foyer? In the bar? In the garden? With a roaming band you can have it everywhere and bring every corner of your party to life. The Roving Rabble come without wires so they can wander freely among your guests and take their music wherever they want, or more importantly, wherever you want it.

6. Magician

If your search for daytime wedding entertainment with a difference has left you scratching your head, why not consider something that will have your guests scratching their heads instead? The mystifying abilities of a skilful close-up magician like CJ Magic will keep your guests enthralled for hours during the slower parts of the day. This class act will have family and friends spellbound with his amazing, sleight-of-hand illusions and uncanny feats of mind-reading, and bring an extra touch of magic to your magical day.

7. Caricaturist

Here’s an idea that’s completely off the wall and probably something you haven’t even considered, but maybe you should. Cartoon lookalikes of your guests are a sure-fire way of entertaining guests of all ages and at the same time creating uniquely individual take-home mementos of the day.

An artist with the natural ability of Speedy Steve can produce uncannily accurate caricatures in just moments, but be warned, his work can cause sudden outbursts of hilarity.

8. Sax player

The mellow tones of a saxophone are sure to set the right mood for a wedding, as long as it’s well played of course, and they don’t come much better than this. Steve – Madness Saxophone was lead sax player with Madness and has more than 20 years’ experience at the very top of his craft.

9. Classical guitarist

One of the great advantages of hiring a solo acoustic guitarist to play at your wedding, apart from the emotive music of course, is their ability to play anywhere, without having to rearrange the furniture. A wonderful classical guitarist with the ability of John Pizzati will entertain your guests during the signing of the register, create a laid-back tone while the photos are taken, and provide a moving and intimate track for the first dance.

10. Jazz band

Jazz and marriages go together like horses and carriages. A jazz band can be the perfect partner for the daytime part of your wedding.

A jazz band with the charisma of Smooth Vibes can lend a delightfully laid-back feel to a drinks reception and add a touch of decadent style to any event; naughty but nice.
