Welcome to The Wedding Industry Insider; a regular blog series that delivers the lowdown on all the latest happenings in the wedding industry. A must-read for both brides-to-be and wedding businesses, the blog will serve to keep you up to date with all the news and emerging trends while inviting you to leave your opinions in the ‘comments’ box at the end of the article.

Kicking off part one, we lift the lid on the most talked-about wedding of 2017 thus far… Pippa Middleton and her well-to-do financier spouse, James Matthews. Costing a reported (and gut-wrenching) £1.2million – if new reports are accurate, the wedding was as wonderfully extravagant as expected. The bride wore a stunning £40,000 Giles Deacon dress which was adorned with lace and bore a striking resemblance to the iconic Alexander McQueen gown that sister, Kate, wore on her momentous day.

Bridal designer, Charlotte Balbier, commented: "Pippa looked absolutely stunning in her Giles Deacon gown. I adored the lace and the high neck detail. How refreshing to see Pippa go against the showing of 'that bum' as everyone predicted (myself included) and instead opt for a classical shape and style that is timeless, yet stylish. I loved the simple silk veil, which framed Pippa's petite frame and delicate features perfectly.”

The picture of understated elegance, Pippa wore her hair in a pretty up-do and finished the look with a Robinson Pelha tiara and pearl teardrop earrings, recycled from the bridesmaid ensemble that stole the show on Kate and Wills’ wedding day.

With Made in Chelsea lothario, Spencer Matthews, as best man; a host of royal wedding guests; the 140ft glass marquee at the Middleton family home; and a Spitfire fly-past, the big day well and truly lived up to expectations… and we can’t wait to see the official photos, no doubt secured in an exclusive magazine deal.

But the highlight? Prince George, alongside the gaggle of perfect-looking page boys and flower girls (including Princess Charlotte), receiving a stern word from Kate before the ceremony had even started – proving that even princes can misbehave at weddings.

And from extortionate expenditure to more budget-friendly buys, Primark has released its new wedding range which offers pyjama sets for the bridal party, as well as wedding décor and engagement gifts. With prices starting at as little as £1.50, it is no wonder that brides-to-be have welcomed the release with open arms – perhaps as an increasing number of couples are being forced to cut their wedding spend.

In other news, White Gallery London took place earlier this month and brought with it a sensational preview of the 2018 bridal collections. It was refreshing to see the catwalk no longer awash with white, as more and more designers experiment with colour – and experiment they did, in show-stopping shades of ice blue, pillar-box red and summery yellow. We can’t wait to see these designs on real brides; do you dare to be different with a coloured wedding dress? Email me at sarah.george@archant.co.uk.
