17 May 2018
National cinema chain Showcase Cinemas has revealed the top 10 wedding films that are inspiring engaged couples more than ever before
A recent poll conducted by Showcase Cinemas has unearthed the nation's favourite wedding films, with cult classic Four Weddings and A Funeral topping the the list.
From feel good rom-coms to alternative animation, here are the movies which have made their mark:
- Four Weddings and a Funeral
- Mamma Mia
- Father of the Bride
- Muriel’s Wedding
- Wedding Crashers
- My Big Fat Greek Wedding
- Corpse Bride
- The Proposal
- The Wedding Singer
The research also discovered how much of an important role films play in inspiring couples' wedding planning. It was discovered that alonside social media, family and friends' weddings, magazines and television, the silver screen is heavily influential.
When pitted against the royal wedding, it was found that Brits are twice as likely to turn to cinematic favourites for wedding inspiration rather than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's big day. Interestingly, 18-24-year-olds are four times more likely to favour films.
Mark Barlow, general manager for Showcase Cinemas UK, said: “Despite the huge spotlight on Harry and Meghan’s wedding this May, it seems there’s no beating the ceremonies of the silver screen. A-listers and Hollywood stars are trumping the Royal Family despite Harry marrying a world-famous actress.
“It seems the film-obsessed generation take inspiration from their hours in front of the screen, with Hollywood even beating social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest as a go-to source of inspiration for brides-to-be.”
