Are you looking to avoid the spectacle and expense of a traditional wedding cake? Here are five alternatives that are guaranteed to impress your guests.
1. Pork pie tower
Not everyone has a sweet tooth, and some people prefer savoury dishes. If you fall into this category, why not look into having two or three traditional pork pies made? They can be stacked atop one another to give the same silhouette as a wedding cake. For a rustic look, you can also decorate the table with sauces and seasonings in mason jars for your guests to help themselves to.

2. Macaron stand
Macarons are so tiny and delicate, yet so delicious. They also look sophisticated whilst still being somewhat cute. For an added splash of colour to your wedding, organise a macaron stand filled with various colours and flavours of macarons. It will mean that everyone gets an individual goodie, and will save on waste. Alternatively, you could make multiple smaller towers and use them as centrepieces for your tables.
3. Cheese cake
No, not a cheesecake: a cheese cake. Cakes made of cheese are growing in popularity in recent years due to their unique and show-stopping appearance, such as this one from The West Country Cheese Co. Cheese boards are a commonly-eaten dessert, so it’s a perfect alternative for cheese-loving couples tying the knot. You can select your favourite cheeses and layer them up in a wedding cake shape, and even add in extra fruit as edible decoration. Serve with your favourite wine, chutney, and crackers.
A croquembouche (pronounced crock-um-boosh) is a French dessert made up of choux pastry balls or profiteroles layered in a cone shape and bound together with threads of spun sugar caramel. Difficult to make and incredibly elegant, a croquembouche is ideal if you’re looking for a stunning crowd pleaser that will make heads turn.

5. Individual wedding cakes
Making individual bite size wedding cakes is a great option if you’re looking to avoid waste. They can be presented as table decorations, served as dessert, or even boxed up and decorated with ribbon to be handed out as wedding favours. Instead of a traditional sponge cake, you could also look into creating cupcakes, meringues, fairy cakes, French fancies, and more. You are only limited by your own imagination.
